A new day

Life intervened. I had to put indaba aside for an extended period in order to produce some income and to help a friend who was dealing with medical troubles. Nevertheless, I’ve gotten a lot done, including stabilizing the CSS template, adding some nifty Java tooltips, and putting up a mission statement. I’m in the middle of adding lines between rows of the Irving Chart to show the details of round-to-round reallocation.

I also refined the ballot posting and IrivingRunner routines at the back end to do table updates rather than truncate/inserts. I had initially suspected that MySQL was choking on update routines. The problem turned out to be a Dreamhost issue. Since then votes have been posting quickly enough for me. Of course, testing is very light. There are only dozens of votes in the system right now, and things are likely to change if that ever becomes hundreds or thousands. Plus, I haven’t done much of anything to deal with heavy multi-user loads. But that’s not rocket science… just more tedium.
